Peter V. Bergstrom hails from Wisconsin where he received his AB (1970) and MA (1973) from Marquette University. After receiving his PhD in early American history from the University of New Hampshire (1979), he spent ten years as a research associate with the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. He has held teaching appointments at Illinois State University, the College of William and Mary, Hampton University, and Old Dominion University.
Dr. Bergstrom is the author of Markets and Merchants: Economic Diversification in Colonial Virginia, 1700-1775 (1985) and has been a long-time contributor to the Virginia Biographical Dictionary project sponsored by the Library of Virginia. He lectures on Virginia history and genealogy for numerous historical and genealogical societies in Virginia, New Hampshire, and Illinois.
In 2003 Peter moved with his wife to Greensboro, NC. He is active in the Virginia Forum and has been a member of the LIA board of directors since 2013.
